My experience with Cataracts has reminded me to share with everyone, especially those of us who are over 50, the importance of regular eye exams. Our eyes are one of the most important things we have and it's up to us to protect them by paying attention to our sight and of course visiting our doctor for yearly eye exams.

I, like many of you, lead a very active lifestyle. I began putting off going to the doctor because of my schedule until finally, I realized I was going to have to do something about my vision. I couldn't see street signs, my night vision was poor and it even got to the point where my blurry vision was making me uncomfortable, causing eye strain and even some headaches. I got myself to the doctor and in the consultation he explained the risks and benefits of the surgery. He let me know I was a candidate for Crystalens. Once I asked numerous questions, he provided me with all of the information of what the Crystalens would do for me and explained the procedure, my reaction was, 'wow, sign me up!'.

I was surprised as to how simple, easy and fast the surgery was for me. The best thing about it is that my doctor and his staff fully prepared me before the surgery. They took detailed measurements and continued communicating with me about each step before and during the surgery. I experienced no pain during the surgery and no discomfort since.

The improvement is not only in my reading vision, my distance and intermediate vision are all much sharper, clearer and colors are brighter. I had no idea what I had been missing.

Your eyes are clearly nothing to fool around with. Proper eye care is essential to staying healthy and leading active lives. I recommend you visit your doctor every year and especially if you are experiencing blurry or diminishing vision. Potential Complications
Implantation of Crystalens is a surgical procedure. All surgical procedures entail some risk. The risks of implantation with Crystalens are generally the same potential risks that exist for implanting all intraocular lenses. Because Crystalens has a smaller optic compared to the standard IOL, glare and other visual disturbances may occur under certain lighting conditions, including at night when the pupil widely dilates. Only your surgeon can determine if Crystalens is right for you and explain the applicable risks. Your doctor will perform a thorough examination and fully inform you of any increased risk of complications. Because Crystalens only absorbs a portion of ultraviolet light, you should wear sunglasses with UV400 protection when out in daylight.

Indications For Use
The Crystalens is intended for primary implantation in the capsular bag of the eye for the visual correction of aphakia secondary to the removal of a cataractous lens in adult patients with and without presbyopia. The Crystalens® provides approximately one diopter of monocular accommodation which allows for near, intermediate, and distance vision without spectacles.
